Breaking news: Eco Danube, EDDSG und Touax confirm specific plans for new services on the Danube

Eco Danube Gmbh, a start-up company of Hödlmayr, Schwandner, Connect and Eurobevrachting, launched on the very day of the roundtable session a new Danube RoRo line running between Deggendorf, Enns and Rousse/Giurgiu. Oskar Stelzhammer, CEO of Eco Danube Gmbh, who announced this positive decision, further explained that the two RoRo barges used for this new line will be carrying tractors, harvesters, special purpose vehicles with heavy lift as well as automobiles. Eco Danube, which expects a rising demand for RoRo transports from and to South-East Europe, can guarantee reliability, good planning and a significant cost-efficiency. The round trip time in the starting phase averages 3 weeks.    

Answering the question raised by via donau logistics expert Gerhard Gussmagg, moderator of the round table session, the CEO of EDDSG / MAHART, Mr. Janos Litvai confirmed specific plans for the implementation of a container liner service on the Danube waterway. The EDDSG/ MAHART is one of the largest shipping companies on the Danube with a fleet of over 250 units and enjoys a large market presence in the Danube region. This well-established company strives under the new management to develop into a modern logistics service provider focusing on inland navigation.  

Alexandru Capatu, representative of the French TOUAX group, used this opportunity to report about the new investments the company has been making in container compatible inland vessels. The self-propelled barges manufactured in China can transport up to 144 TEU in 3 layers and will soon be used on the Danube. According to Capatu, the Port of Constantza is ready for container transports on the Danube.
