Implementation of projects

The implementation platform PLATINA, which is steered by via donau, has over 20 partners in 9 countries and supports the European Commission in the implementation of its NAIADES Action Programme. The project involves the EU Member States as well as the river commissions and the inland navigation sector. The goals and measures co-defined by via donau at European level constitute the framework for national programmes.

Following the structure of the NAIADES Action Programme, PLATINA is comprised of five work packages which cover the strategy areas of NAIADES:

• Enhancement of competitiveness for inland navigation and development of new markets
• Modernisation of fleets and innovation
• Recruitment of new manpower and funding for education and training
• Raising of awareness and commercial exploitation of inland navigation services
• Contribution to the creation of a functional waterway infrastructure

The further development of River Information Services (RIS) is a high priority objective in the implementation of the PLATINA project. The harmonised implementation of RIS in Europe is being implemented within the scope of Trans-European Transport System (TEN-T), the funded projects  IRIS Europe I und IRIS Europe II and is under the overall control of the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT) and via donau.

Further themes dealt with in European projects range from further education and training in the inland navigation sector to ship engineering and new strategies for sustainable river engineering.
