While European roads are increasingly becoming subject to toll fees and transit regulations, Schaufler Metall- und Stahlhandel relies on one of the oldest and most traditional trading routes in Europe – the Danube. As the company has its own Danube port in Ybbs, the waterway is an integral part of the company’s transport and logistics solutions. Steel scrap – shear scrap prepared for charging– is regularly transported by private vessels from Ybbs to Western Europe. About 25,000 tonnes per year are carried by inland waterway transport vessels to Duisburg and the ARA ports. Schaufler also uses inland waterway transport for processed non-ferrous metals such as aluminium, copper and stainless steel. In addition, the company’s inland navigation vessels transport coke, building materials and containers on behalf of the shipping industry.
